The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office correctional division will remain at full strength during this difficult time. While the officers are very busy, they will continue to operate, a safe and humane correctional facility. In order to reduce the risk to officers, providers and those incarcerated, we are following recommendations of the Maine CDC and Department of Corrections. Social distancing in a correctional facility can be very difficult. We have taken every precaution to reduce movement and further exposures from outside influences. We are working with the courts, DA’s office and pretrial services whenever possible.

The health, safety and welfare of our correctional officers is critical to procurement of our mission. We will continue to work through our daily adjusting procedures.

While visitation and programming has been reduced; security, medical, mental health and essential services will remain in place. We are working through the options for increased video visitations and will provide updates as they become available.
