There are many opportunities for employment within the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and Jail. Job notices will be posted on this site, and each will have their own particular requirements to apply. The following are the standards that all positions share as a minimum for application. We are very proud of our agency, and we recognize that we are only as good as our employees; therefore, we maintain high standards and use the hiring process as a way to filter the best candidates for employment.
Minimum standards for all positions:
| Minimum 21 years of age; | |
| High school diploma or GED; | |
| No serious motor vehicle history; | |
| Successful completion of departmental testing procedures; | |
| Successful completion of a full criminal and motor vehicle background check; | |
| Employee evaluation test process; | |
| Departmental oral boards; | |
| Physical assessment; | |
| Polygraph examination. |
Candidates who are successful in the hiring process will be offered a conditional offer of employment, contingent upon their successful completion of the polygraph and physical assessment. These two tests do not occur until there is a conditional offer of employment. Current or recent illegal drug users should not apply.
Applications are available at the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office lobby during regular business hours or available to be mailed upon request. Call (207)947-4585. Applications are kept on file for the duration of that hire only.
