Before the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office can accept an application for employment, the applicant must have passed the ALERT Test. The ALERT Examination is offered at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. To make an appointment please call (207)877-8000.
Applicants must bring a government issued picture id (drivers license) and a $50.00 fee. If paying with cash, please bring the correct amount. If paying by check, make it payable to “Treasurer, State of Maine”. Applicants should arrive at 8:15 AM, 15 minutes prior to the start of the exam at 8:30 AM. Anyone arriving after the exam has started will be asked to reschedule. No electronic devices such as cell phones or cameras will be allowed in the testing room. The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is seeking correction officers. The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office has an immediate need for full and part-time corrections officers. You must be 20 years old, possess a high school diploma or G.E.D, and meet all criteria listed in application packet. Applicant must be able to attend eight (8) 40-hour weeks of orientation/training. Part-time starting pay rate is $12.00 per hour. The 2017 full-time pay range is $15.82 to $19.97 per hour.
