Before the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office can accept an application for Corrections or Law Enforcement, the applicant must have passed the ALERT Test. The ALERT examination is offered at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. To make an appointment please call (207)877-8000.


Applicants must bring a government issued picture id (drivers license) and a $50.00 fee. If paying with cash, please bring the correct amount. If paying by check, make it payable to “Treasurer, State of Maine”. Applicants should arrive at 8:15 AM, 15 minutes prior to the start of the exam at 8:30 AM. Anyone arriving after the exam has started will be asked to reschedule. Patrol Deputy – Full-Time Opening

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a full-time Patrol Deputy.  You must be 21 years old, possess a high school diploma or G.E.D, and meet all criteria listed below.  The 2017 full-time pay range is $18.75 to $23.04 per hour.  Application packets are available 8AM to 4PM Monday-Friday at the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office or on our website. PART-TIME and FULL-TIME  CORRECTIONS OFFICERS


The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office is seeking correction officers.  The Penobscot County Sheriff's Office has an immediate need for full and part-time corrections officers.  You must be 19 years old, possess a high school diploma or G.E.D, and meet all criteria listed in the application packet and the entrance standards for the Basic Corrections Training Program located on the Maine Criminal Justice Academy's website.  Applicant must be able to attend eight (8) 40-hour weeks of orientation/training.  Part-time starting pay rate is $12.00 per hour.  The 2017 full-time pay range is $15.82 to $19.97 per hour.  Application packets are available 8 to 4 M-F at the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, 85 Hammond St., Bangor, ME 04401 or, on our website.
