Biography

Lt.
Keith Hotaling
Lt. Hotaling is the
lieutenant of the Division of
Support Services at the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.
He was born and raised in the Capital Region of New York, having attended
the
Saratoga
High School
and later college in
Schenectady
,
New York
. At college he majored in math,
science and business. In 1980 he
moved to
Maine
and was hired in 1982 as a part-time corrections officer.
In 1983 this became a full time position.
In 1984, Sheriff Edward Reynolds, recognizing Keith’s computer
knowledge and budgeting skills, promoted him to Sgt. of Support services.
In May of 1989 he was promoted to Lieutenant of that same division.
Lt. Hotaling is responsible for a major role in expanding the computer
infrastructure of the Penobscot County Jail and Sheriff’s Office.
He is responsible for maintenance, upgrading and networking of the entire
agency's computer system and has been the agency's representative on the
Penobscot County Law Enforcement System. This
is a multi-agency computer system operating on Spillman software, maintaining
nearly a half a million name records and involvements.
In addition to the computer responsibility, Lt. Hotaling manages the
budget, calculates law enforcement contracts, and develops spreadsheets and
Excel applications to streamline the many functions of the agency.
He is a graduate of the Maine
Criminal Justice Academy Basic Law Enforcement School.
Currently, he is a, member of the Sheriff’s Office Warrant Team.
This team is comprised of officers with additional training in warrant
preparation, building entry and evidence collection.
